The event takes place March 19, 2022, at Lost Pines Scout Reservation, Cub World, Bastrop TX.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>We would like to gather all of our interested scouts for this event!<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in joining\u00a0us <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/muFthvfa61ipiHqXA\"><strong>RSVP here<\/strong><\/a> as soon as possible<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/muFthvfa61ipiHqXA\" target=\"_blank\">.<\/a> To get the early rate of $12 you must register before 3\/4\/2022. To help you get familiar with orienteering, you can walk a short warmup course with 8 control points. It is not timed\/scored so you can start at any time and get familiar with orienteering. &nbsp; Each point will have an orienteering symbol, when you find it, write down what that symbol represents (your welcome packet will include a symbol list).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Point-to-Point Courses<\/strong><strong> (the main event)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four courses that you can choose from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>White<\/strong>: Easiest \u2014 for beginners, especially families with young children. Length: 2-3 km<\/li><li><strong>Yellow<\/strong>: Easy \u2014 for experienced beginners, e.g. adults or teens with outdoor experience. Length: 3-5 km<\/li><li><strong>Orange<\/strong>: Intermediate \u2014 a mix of easy and more challenging control points. Length: 4.5-7 km<\/li><li><strong>Green<\/strong>: Advanced, medium length \u2014 difficult navigation, moderate physical challenge. Length: 4-7 km<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Score-O<\/strong><strong>: <\/strong>After awards there is a short Score-O event where scouts have a limited time to find as many points as they can before the clock runs out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Night-O<\/strong><strong>:&nbsp; <\/strong>After sunset, there is a Score event where scouts use flashlights to help them find as many of the reflective markers before the time runs out.&nbsp; High score within the limited time wins!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Getting Ready<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What to bring:&nbsp; pen\/pencil, pants, poncho, water, sunscreen, a whistle, a snack, watch, compass (helpful, but not necessarily needed for beginner courses) first aid kit.&nbsp; Flashlight is a must-have for the Night-O.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are participating in the Merit Badge Class, please bring a compass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t forget <strong>lunch <\/strong>and <strong>dinner <\/strong>if you are hanging out for all of the activities or camping out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about the event and registration, visit their website at:&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.centraltexasspringo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.centraltexasspringo.org<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scouts BSA Troop 8787 invites Scouts of all ages to its 5th annual Spring-O orienteering challenge.
